IDENTIFICATION Head Pores - Scales - Predorsal area and breast naked; scales in lateral series 34-43. Fins - D1 - VI (V-VII); D2 - I+9(7-10); anal I+8-9; pectoral 18-19(16-20) Head - Eyes large; maxilla extending to anterior of eye; Papillae - A longitudinal pattern with row a under eye and having a single transverse proliferation near posterior of eye; row b ending at posterior of eye; row d in two sections; transverse rows between level of row b and row d. Color - Fawn to yellowish-olive, with coarse dark reticulation, four pale saddles across back and four 'double spots' along lateral midline; first and second dorsal fins in both sexes with at least 1 row of large dark spots, surmounted by oblique rosy bands. (Miller, 1986) Distribution - eastern Atlantic from Norway, Spain, Canary Islands Habitat - Found over sand and gravel to depths of 55 meters Notes - |
