IDENTIFICATION

Head Pores - No head canal or pores.

Scales - Nape without scales; scales in lateral series 26-28, lager and ctenoid.

Fins - D1 - VI; D2 - I+13-14; anal I+13-14; pectoral 17-20.

Head -

Papillae - A longitudinal pattern with row a around lower edge of eye; row a, c, cp present and without transverse proliferations. Rows g and h distinct; row b long, reaching the edge of the preopercle.

Color - Head and body with yellow and bluish bands.

Distribution - eastern Atlantic (Morocco and Canaries); Mediterannean.

Habitat - An inshore species. Young inhabit deeper waters to 230 meters.
