IDENTIFICATION Head Pores - Cephalic head canal with pores B',C(S),D(S),E,F,G,H' and K',L' Scales - Scales in lateral series 36-38(33-42). Fins - D1 - VI; D2 - I+11(10-12); anal I+10; pectoral 17-19(17-20). Head - Papillae - A transverse pattern with vertical rows under eye extending from orbit to row d; two rows under row b, row 5i extending from row b to row d and row 6i extending from row b to below the level of row d; row b long extending from below pupil to near preopercle. Color - A translucent white with large orange to brown spots covering the body. Distribution - eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean including Maderia and the Canary Islands. Habitat - In the Canaries they are found in small caves and crevices with sand bottoms to depths of 200 feet. Notes - |
