IDENTIFICATION

Head Pores - Head canal with pores B',C,D'; no preopercle pores

Scales - Several ctenoid scales with large ctenii present on ventral surface of caudal peduncle only, no other scales

Fins - D1 - VI, no filiments elongate; D2 - 13; pectoral - 12(11-12); anal - 10(9-11)

Head - Maxilla extends to posterior of the eye; anterior nostril short tube; posterior nostril a raised rim; interorbital narrow, about eye diameter;

Papillae - A reduced transverse pattern with three rows anterior to row b; no rows extending below level of row d

Color -

Distribution - North Carolina to Fort Pierce, Florida, ; Dry Tortugas to Panama City; Bay of Campeche

Habitat - lives in logger head sponges
